Neck Pain and Chiropractic Treatment
Neck pain is common and often multi-factorial, including posture, stress, sleep and desk setup. Chiropractic care can be part of a multimodal plan that keeps you active, improves mobility and builds resilience.
Where chiropractic fits in UK guidance
Primary-care guidance supports exercise plus manual therapy within a multimodal strategy, together with self-management and work or ergonomic advice where relevant. cks.nice.org.uk+1
What to expect at Alpha Chiropractic
- Assessment and screening: history, movement tests and neurological checks if needed
- Manual therapy: mobilisation or manipulation and soft-tissue work where appropriate
- Active rehab: graded mobility and strengthening that you can continue at home
- Advice: sleep, pacing, desk setup and when to step up care or seek imaging or medical referral
Does spinal manipulation help neck pain? The latest evidence
A 2025 BMJ Open network meta-analysis comparing musculoskeletal manipulation approaches reported that multimodal treatment that combines two or more musculoskeletal manipulations, often including exercise, was the most effective for reducing neck pain intensity and neck disability versus no treatment. The analysis also found that manipulation alone was most effective for improving cervical range of motion. This supports current practice where clinicians combine spinal manipulation with exercise and education rather than using manipulation alone. Evidence certainty varied and the authors called for larger, well-designed trials. bmjopen.bmj.com
How many visits, how often?
Visit frequency is individual, but we usually begin with a short course at twice per week, then reduce frequency as symptoms settle and exercises take over. We will agree a review schedule based on your progress and goals.
Safety first
Neck care should be delivered by a registered professional with appropriate screening and consent. We discuss benefits, alternatives and risks before treatment and can adapt techniques, for example favouring mobilisation or low-force methods, based on comfort and clinical findings. See professional standards from the GCC. gcc-uk.org
Red flags such as severe trauma, progressive neurological symptoms or systemic illness require medical assessment. NICE CKS outlines assessment and referral pathways, including guidance for suspected radiculopathy. cks.nice.org.uk
Local note
We help people with neck pain from Hemel Hempstead and across St Albans, Watford, Harpenden, Berkhamsted, Tring, Kings Langley and Apsley, with plans that combine hands-on care and exercises you can stick with.
