Chronic Migraine Treatment

At Alpha Chiropractor & Sports Injury Clinic we use botulinum toxin (Botox ®) to treat chronic migraine. Kevin is a qualified nurse and an Independent Nurse Prescriber. He can assess your suitability for treatment and also administer the treatment.
The NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) guidlines are as follows:
NICE recommends botulinum toxin type A as a possible treatment for preventing headaches in some adults with chronic migraine (see below).
Who can have botulinum toxin type A?
You should be able to have botulinum toxin type A if you have chronic migraine (that is, you have headaches on at least 15 days each month, with migraine on at least 8 of these days) and:
you have already tried at least three different drug treatments to prevent your chronic migraine headaches, but these have not worked and
you are not taking too many painkillers or using them too often.

Professor Carole Longson, Director of the Health Technology Evaluation Centre at NICE said: “Chronic migraines are extremely debilitating and can significantly affect a person’s quality of life. We are pleased that our committee has been able to recommend Botox as a preventative therapy for those adults whose headaches have not improved despite trying at least three other medications and whose headaches are not caused by medication overuse.”

Our Services

Chiropractors (practitioners of chiropractic) use their hands to treat disorders of the bones, muscles and joints.

Chiropractors use a range of techniques, with an emphasis on manipulation of the spine. They may also offer advice on diet, exercise, postural correction and lifestyle. They will give rehabilitation programmes that involve exercises to do in your own time

Diversified Chiropractic

At Alpha Chiropractic and Sports Injury Clinic, we use an adjusting style commonly referred to as “Diversified.” Many people ask the questions “what is chiropractic?” or “what is a chiropractor?” Diversified is the technique practiced by Danial David Palmer, the first chiropractor who founded the chiropractic medical profession in 1895.

Gonstead Technique

Named after its developer, Dr. Clarence Gonstead, this approach came from his engineering background. His “foundation principle” explains how a subluxation pattern in one area of the spine can produce compensatory changes in another.

Thompson Drop Technique

The Thompson Technique, developed by Dr. J. Clay Thompson, has evolved into a system of analysis and a way of adjusting the full spine.

The combination produces precise adjustments and high levels of patient comfort.

Activator Methods

We use one of the most popular “low force” chiropractic techniques in the world.

The Activator Methods® Adjusting Instrument is a handheld spring-loaded tool that delivers a consistent low-force, high-speed thrust.

Supportive Therapies

Electrical Therapy: InterX 5000
The InterX 5000 is the first product from NRG to use a new generation of neurostimulation technology called Interactive Neurostimulation. Hand-held and battery operated, the InterX 5000 delivers significant results in applications such as, Injury Management, Rehabilitation and Pain Relief – both acute and complex chronic pain conditions.

McTimoney Chiropractic Technique

At Alpha Chiropractic Clinic, we will tailor the correct chiropractic technique to suit your treatment needs and preferences. We can offer a lighter chiropractic technique known toggle recoil technique, which is very similar to McTimoney chiropractic technique.
