Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD)
Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) is a relatively common condition especially during pregnancy. SPD is often due to misalignment of the 3 bones of the pelvis (sacrum and both iliac bones). It can occur at any time during pregnancy and may in part be due to the release of joint relaxing hormones (in pregnancy), changes in the shape of the body and both dynamic and static postures.
Anatomy of pelvis: symphysis pubis dysfunction
Pain in the symphysis pubis area is often accompanied by pain and dysfunction of the hip/groin and low back or posterior pelvic area.
Treatment of this condition is straightforward, in that, we correct the pelvic misalignment and also specifically manipulate the symphysis pubis joint.
